The report begins with a discussion of the significance of paper industry sludge management as a regulatory and environmental issue. It also reviews paper production and effluent treatment processes, focusing on Ontario operations, as well as pulp and paper manufacturing processes and the types of sludges they generate. The paper includes comparative data on sludge composition at Ontario mills.
