The charter and various narratives are taken from v. 3 of Hakluyt's Collection of early voyages "The first voyage to America under the charge and direction of Sir Walter Ralegh, knight, 1584." (p. 107-127) is supposed to be by Capt. Arthur Barlow. The first part of "The second voyage ... 1585" (p. 129-142) is probably by Sir Richard Grenville; the remainder (p. 143-180) is by Ralph Lane. "The third voyage ... 1586" (p. 183-186) is anonymous. "A briefe and true report of the new found land of Virginia ... by Thomas Heriot," p.187-244. "The fourth voyage ... 1587" (p. 245-270) is given anonymously by Hakluyt. A letter from White to Hakluyt, accompanying his account of the fifth voyage, is here appended to the fouth voyage (p. 270-273) "The fifth voyage ... 1590" (p. 275-298) is by "Governor" John White
