This is evidenced by the deletion on p. xvii and the additions on p. ix and xl. The "Preface," on the other hand seems to be an earlier version of that contained in the other printing, which has replaced references to David Malloch (p. c and civ) with his later name "Mallet," bringing the "Preface" into agreement with usage in the "Memoir."
