06 Jul 2012 03:04:23 Peter Hook will publish a new memoir looking back on his years in Joy Division. Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division follows 2009's The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club, which traced the origins of Manchester's most famous nightclub. Publishers Simon & Schuster have officially announced the book, which will be published on 1 October. "In [his] frank, no-holds-barred style … Peter 'Hooky' Hook gives us the inside story of life with Joy Division," according to the publisher. "He talks with eye-opening candour and reflection about the suicide of Ian Curtis: often seen as the 'intellectual one', to Peter and the band he was just 'one of the lads' … [Hook also] covers the band's friendships and fall-outs; their rehearsals and recording sessions; and the larger-than-life characters who formed a vital part of the Joy Division story." Discussing the book last year, Hook said previous volumes about the band "got a lot of things wrong". "They're done by people who were not anywhere near Joy Division," he told Exclaim. "I hope this book puts my Joy Division demons to rest. And then I can put my New Order demons to rest. And then I can rest." Hook's relations with other former members of Joy Division have gone from bad to non-existent in recent years. Bernard Sumner has been enraged by Hook playing sets of Joy Division songs with his band the Light. "We've spent all our life as an outfit with principles and ideals and what Peter has done goes against everything we've stood for," Sumner told the Guardian last year. "He thought Joy Division were depressing," Hook responded. "If I'd asked him for permission, they'd have told me to fuck off anyway."
