We know the names of the winners of the 31st annual American Book Awards , they are Dave Eggers and Amiri Baraka. This award is given for literary works that cover "the entire spectrum of America's diverse literary community."
The winner work from Eggers was "Zeitoun," a novel set in post-Katrina New Orleans, the Baraka work was "Digging: The Afro-American Soul of American Classical Music."
More than a dozen winners were announced Thursday, including Sesshu Foster's "World Ball Notebook" and Victor Lavelle's "The Big Machine."
The awards were established in part by author-poet-playwright Ishmael Reed. But there was no cash prize.
