(8vo) Describes the life of the author from his birth in Saint-Domingue in 1783, his education, travels in France, his experience of the French Revolution, his escape from France by ship, his further travels to Guadeloupe, Brazil, Cayennem and other places throughout the Caribbean. The author becomes a cabin boy on a privateering ship where he becomes a convert, rejecting his profligate lifestyle. Going back to Saint-Domingue in 1803 to see his family, he leaves on board a ship when it is captured by an English vessel.
