Two essays on the application of Buddhist principles in facing the challenges of the new millenium. Both essays provide cogent analysis of the assumptions underlying the conventional and misguided notions of "economic development" and the need to come to terms with the dark side of our consumer society based on the impossibility of unlimited growth. He sees the environmental, political, and social crises we currently face as an expression of views and attitudes that are fundamentally out of tune with reality. In other words, our external problems stem ultimately from a collective spiritual crisis.
