Armenian-language treatise on the district of Gandzak (Kirovabad/modern Ganja). This area frequently passed back and forth between Armenian and Aghuanian states, in the pre-Turkic period. The bulk of this study concentrates on the 19th-20th centuries when Armenians were still an important part of the population. The author, the renowned ethnographer/folklorist Ervand Lalayan (1864-1931), founded the Armenian Ethnographic Society (1901) as well as the scholarly journal Azgagrakan Handes [Ethnographic Review] (1895-1916). Topography: noteworthy Armenian villages, monasteries, fortresses, German settlements, Russian Molakan settlements, Turkish villages (descriptions include population statistics); 3.
