Edwin Lester Arnold (1875-1939) is known as an outstanding novelist famous for his dramatic science fiction works like "Phra the Phoenician" and "Gulliver Jones" whcih was published in 1905. His style of writing is very interesting being a mixture of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells style. It was also noticed that his book in many ways resemble the series of books about Mars written by Edgar Rice Burroughs which were being published since 1911. Their similarity is very striking but let the literary critics discuss this mystery and just start reading this story full of great adventures. The book is devoted to lieutenant of the U.S. Navy Gulliver Jones. When being on a flying carpet in the sky of the New York City, somehow he is carried to Mars and meet strange inhabitants there. On that planet he meet a charming princess Heru and the chemistry appears between them. However, she is supposed to marry the king of Hither and his people kidnap her. Gulliver sets off to rescue her experiencing a number of adventures on his way.
