Book digitized by Google from the library of University of Michigan and uploaded to the Internet Archive by user tpb. The manuscript here published was one of the 4,320 books and manuscripts given by Don Pedro de Aragón to the monastery of Poblet 1602-1677. The work was not wholly unknown, the original with license to print having been found by Lucas Fernández de Piedrahita about the end of the 17th century in the Library of Don Alonso Ramíres de Prado, and used by him in connection with the "Compendio historical de las conquistas del Nuevo Reino" of Don Gonzalo Ximénez de Quesada as the basis of the first and only part of his "Historia general de las conquistas del Nuevo Reino de Granada". The manuscript here published differs from the original in having twenty-three instead of twenty-two cantos, containing in addition an "Elegía compuesta á la muerte del capitan Hierónimo Hurtado de Mendoza", in three cantos; an "Elogio del doctor Antonio González", and the final Canto de las alcabalas. cf.
