Information to Public about enforced Disappearance of a Ph.D. Student, Sewak Singh, (Punjabi University, Patiala) Dated: 9 Sept. 09. Sir/Madam, We students of Punjabi University, Patiala here by inform you that: 1. Sewak Singh (MA-Punjabi, MA, Comparative Religion Studies and M.Phil in Linguistics is doing Ph.D. from linguistics Department of Punjabi University, Patiala under Guidance of Dr. Joga Singh (Head) and is about to submit his thesis. 2. He is Resident of Room No. 29-A of Homi Bhobha Hostel located with in University Campus. 3. On 4th September 2009, he was brought (around mid night) by Ludhiana Police to hostel to search his room. A DSP of Patiala Police was also present warden confirm this fact of hostel. 4. In the present of Hostel Warden Dr. Rajinder Singh Police searched Sewak's room and took away Sewak Singh along with ruff printouts of thesis. He is doing thisis on 'Gurbani Grammar'. 5. Parmjeet Singh (Student of LLM, Law Dept. Punjabi University, Patiala) 30 A room (that room is adjacent to 29-A room of Sewak Singh) Saw Sewak Singh in Police Custody. Many other students also saw him in custody and they affirm/confirm that police took Sewak Singh away when they lift the hostel warden also confirm it. 6. No one has seen Sewak Singh since then and there is not information about his where about with his family, relatives, co-students, his Guide Dr. Joga Singh, warden of Hostel, Dean students welfare (of Uni.) and all other possible persons. 7. Students of various department brought this fact to the knowledge of University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh and Registrar Dr. S.S. Khehra on 8th Sept. 2009. 8. This is a serious matter of enforced disappearance of a Ph.D. student for Moren than 5 days till now.
