One of at least three undated Janot eds. to include a four year privilege statement (p. [2]) dated: le dernier iour de Ianuier, mil cing cents trente neuf (i.e. 1540). In this ed., lines 3-8 of the title are in italic letter, and the motto printed with Janot's device at the end is in roman. Cf. Mortimer "Theatre" in the title has a diaeresis above the first e, and the text has been reset with larger type than that shown in Mortimer. Cf. plate 9 in Saunders "Auecq' priuilege" is characteristic of the presentation of that statement in works published shortly after Janot's death by his widow. Janot's t.p.s show "Auec priuilege ...". (cf. t.p.s of their publications in Mortimer.) The same woodcuts were utilized by the widow's subsequent husband (E. Groulleau) in eds. of the 1550s Place of publication from colophon Signatures: A-N, O Mortimer, R. French 16th cent. Brunet Praz, M. 17th cent. imagery Janot, D. Catalogue des éd.s franc. per H.
