Book cover
An article in a monograph I was given recently. The editor generously released the rights so it can be reproduced digitally. This is one of several pieces that deal with the colonization of women's bodies through Western feminsit discourses of "freedom". I think every women's studies class ought to teach this article together with Said's "Orientalism" and Spivak's "Can the Subaltern Speak?" This author concludes that in our current practices within and outside academia, the subaltern is still oppressed by the discourse of "freedom".
