In the preface to Mohammed, The Prophet of Islam Hayes states that the purpose of this essay is to set the facts straight about Moslem life and the Moslem faith. Hayes is writing in 1914 to Christians in England. Hayes says that the earliest writings about Mohammed depict him as a normal man with all the flaws and sins of his followers and it is only is later editions of the Koran that Mohammed's faults are ignored and he becomes a holy person. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
