Book cover
Engraved t.p., numbered as first plate, historiated, replete with proverbial sayings, serves as t.p. of the first book as well Some plates read: "I. Lagniet exc[udit]" in part, others the location of the firm, and a few bear initials of engravers Definitive count of plates published in the set apparently never determined. Collections cited by bibliographic authorities vary Plate 15, 2nd book, dated 1657 1. livre. Biog. univ. Nouv. biog. génér. Larousse. Grand dict. XIXe siècle Library's copy includes 3 titles in addition to those on the t.p., and miscellaneous plates. Each part has its own t.p. Text on some plates apparently obliterated, some plates have text altered in ink, all plates numbered differently in ink and in pencil as well as on the plate. Not all are numbered on the plate. Plate 14 in the first book printed on different stock and laid in, plates 27, 39, 47 missing. Second book lacks plates 8, 12, 41, with several seemingly unrelated plates including a map, in the sequence. The first Tiel Wlespiegle sequence has 11 plates with 2 additional laid in, the second, 21, the final 5 mounted. Paper of some plates in each section seems to be the same. Plates are mounted in Emblèmes d'amour
