Book cover
Rin Tin Tin was the name given to several related German Shepherd dogs in film and television stories from the 1920's through the 1950's. In 1918 US Air Corps Corporal Lee Duncan discovered a half-starved German Shepherd dog and her five puppies in a blasted dug-out on the battle fields of France. Duncan took two of the puppies back to the USA, which he named Nannette and Rin Tin Tin. The dark-coated German Shepherd dog Rin Tin Tin made his first film in 1923 and was the world's biggest box-office draw by 1926. He got his own radio show, "The Wonder Dog," in 1930, doing his own sound effects. Warner Bros. Pictures, saved from bankruptcy by the success of his films, maintained 18 trained tand-ins in order to reduce the strain on their star. Rin Tin Tin Comic Books were based on that dog from the Movies. Published by Dell Publishing Compnany, Incorporated; 261 Fidth Avenue, New York 16, New York.
