His speech attracted large crowds. During his life in New York City his activity consisted of conducting reforms in the society as well as struggling against violence and crime. Moreover, Thomas De Witt Talmage served for some time as an editor of such magazines as Christian at Work, the Advance, Frank Leslie's Sunday Magazine, the Christian Herald.
