The Torrents of Spring
The narration is given from the perspective of 52-year old landlord Sanin. He tells about the events that took place 30 years ago. When visiting Frankfurt, Sanin fell in love with a young girl named Gemma, and proposed her. Their feelings were so strong that she even broke up with her fiancée. To get money for the marrying Sanin went to Wiesbaden, to his friend’s rich wife. But authoritative Maria Nikolaevna, following her whim, made Sanin one of her lovers. That’s the very moment where the story begins.
