archaic objects

Book cover
Edward Quibell [1867-1935] directed the excavations on the town mound at Hierakonpolis from 1897 to 1898. The temple area yielded spectacular objects of the Old Kingdom, including life-size copper statues of two Sixth Dynasty kings and a golden hawk head. Most significant for early dynastic studies was the discovery of the so-called Main Deposit , a hoard of early votive objects including the famous scorpion and maceheads. These provided the earliest images of Egyptian Kings. Quibell catalogued and published these findings in Archaic Objects, printed in two volumes in 1904-1905. Illustrated with 66 plates depicting hundreds of objects. Large Folio. Hardcover. Two volumes bound in one. 328 pages. 66 plates. Cairo, 1904-1905$150
