The present lectures are intended to be a manual and guide in the practical laboratory-work in the course of explosives at the U. S. Artillery School. The aim was to present the subject in systematic and logic way, due discussion being given to the sequence in which the different classes of explosives are arranged, so that a certain degree of familiarity may be found in handling the less sensitive and dangerous mixtures before undertaking experiments with the high explosives. A special attention has been paid to the service tests of the different explosives.
