“These pages deal with the Society in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. It was not thought well to include the Baltimore Yearly Meetings, for the reason that these lie only in part in Maryland, and extending into Pennsylvania, where the emancipation sentiment was strong, there was not the same heroism implied in opposition to slavery as in the more southern Yearly Meetings.
