Book cover
French historian Théodore Gosselin wrote under the penname G. Lenôtre -- articles in Figaro, Revue des deux mondes, Monde illustré and Temps. He produced a great deal of fiction and nonfiction regarding the French Revolution and its Reign of Terror; his work was recognized and admired by his contemporaries and Gosselin was made an officer of the Légion d'honneur. In 1932, near the end of his life, he was elected to the Académie française -- but issues having to do with his health prevented him from delivering the speech which he had written in homage to his Académie predecessor (whose seat he had inherited), René Bazin.
