It’s a boyhood and romantic adventure story taking place during pioneer days in southern Indiana. Young Tom, the boys’ hero of the early 20th century, and Balser Brent come into a struggle with forces of nature and animals of Indiana; find themselves in dangerous situations, travelling far south in search of gold.
The author, Charles Major, an American lawyer and novelist, is best known for his novel “When Knighthood Was in Flower”.
