you know me al a bushers letters

Book cover
A series of sketches by an American sports columnist, topical satirist and short story writer, Ringgold Wilmer Lardner.
While working for the Chicago Tribune in 1914, Lardner began writing a series of illiterate letters between a baseball pitcher and his wife. The book, they compiled, “You Know Me, Al” was enormously popular after the publication in 1916, being a landmark in American sports fiction. Instead of adoration of sports heroes, which commonly took place in literature, Lardner introduced them with a note of skepticism.
