Grace MacGowan Cooke (1863-1944) was an American author, born in Ohio and raised in Tennessee. She began writing in her twenties and contributed stories to many magazines including Harper's, Munsey's, the National Magazine, The Argosy and the Atlantic Monthly. Her works include: The Bird O' Paradise (1903), Aunt Huldah: Proprietor of the Wagon-Tire House and Genial Philosopher of the Cattle Country (1904), A Gourd Fiddle (1904), The Grapple: A Story of the Illinois Coal Region (1905), Their First Formal Call (1906), Son Riley Rabbit and Little Girl (1907), The Power and the Glory (1910), The Doings of the Dollivers: The Strange Adventures of a Doll Family (1910), The Joy Bringer (1913), Sonny Bunny Rabbit and His Friends (1915), The Straight Road (1917), Wild Apples: A California Story (1918) and The Man Behind the Mask (1927).
