During this period of time the hero, Edmond Dantes, betrayed and shut up in a secret dungeon, forced to rely only on his wit, courage, and luck. He goes through unbearable years of imprisonment, escapes, returns to life under the name of a mysterious noble Count of Monte Cristo; and takes revenge. The reader is undoubtedly caught by the characters, act of vengeance and the lines of the narration that brings everyone back together. The success of this novel surpassed all the previous works of the author.
