Red-Tape and Pigeon-Hole Generals is a collection of sketches written by William Armstrong in 1862 which was the time when the whole country was involved in the Civil War. Armstrong's stories had an aim to courage the soldiers who fought in it to be loyal and determined and struggle till the very end. The author took part in the war himself but got injured and during his recovery wrote Red-Tape and Pigeon-Hole Generals. The stories are devoted to the military camp situated near Frederick City and those soldiers who stayed there as well as to the Picket Station on the Potomac River and some other places and personalities.
