A 1906 collection of short stories, written by American humorist and novelist, Mark Twain (1835-1910), captured a world audience with stories of boyhood adventure and with commentary on man's shortcomings that is humorous even while it probes, often bitterly, the roots of human behavior. The title story in this collection is a satirical indictment of America's money culture. The volume also includes “Extracts from Adam's Diary,” “Eve's Diary,” and “A Dog's Tale.” Twain’s tales, witty and apt, are still popular and timely, though written over a century ago.
