Alfred Graves was an early 20th century Irish poet, songwriter, and school inspector. In 1869 he entered the Civil Service as clerk in the Home Office. He remained until he became an inspector of schools in 1874. He wrote the ballad Father O'Flynn and many other songs and ballads. These poems are renderings in English verse from Irish & Welsh poetry. Sections are Irish Poems, Lays of the Irish saints, Lays of Monk and Hermit, A Prayer to the Virgin, Lamentations, Songs of Music, Welsh Poems, Old and New Testament Studies, Church Festivals, Good and Faithful Servants, and Personal and Various.
