Joris-Karl Huysmans’ treatise of the symbology of medieval architecture. A French novelist, he is best known for his novel “Against the Grain”. “The Cathedral” became the third, and the last, part of a trilogy, describing spiritual search of literary man. Almost the whole substance of the work is devoted to The Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres).
