Use of location information by jumping spiders

Book cover
This is a new write-up of research work pertaining to the ability of jumping spiders (Araneae, Salticidae) to use distance, direction, and location information as they move through vegetation. The mathematical analysis of the three-dimensional spatial memory of these spiders is greatly improved, as is the interpretation of a large amount of experimental data, not previously available to the general public. Although these spiders are small, many features of their directional memory parallel those seen in humans, particularly their reliance on gravity to establish a horizontal reference plane.
